COUNCIL CHIEF URGES FG ON ASSU STRIKE
CARETAKER committee chairman of Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, Professor Joseph Adeniyi Olowofela, has urged the Federal Government to acced to the request of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the interest of the nation’s youths and its manpower development.
Olowofela made the appeal in a statement in Ibadan, following the inability of the Federal Government to resolve the current industrial crisisin the nation’s universities.
The council boss said that the 70 years retirement age for professors is not much and is in the interest of the universities, as young scholars would have the unique opportunity of gaining from their experience.
According to him, the Federal Government must abide by its agreement with ASUU, putting into consideration the obvious fact that it affected the critical group in the nation, which are the youths, who are also the engine for a better tomorrow.
Olowofela, who is also a prominent member of the academic community, asserted that the said agreement was vigorously negotiated between the two to an acceptable terms, and wondered why it is now difficult for the government to fulfil its terms.
It is expedient to note that a country without an enlightened minds is in the precipe of destruction and education remains the basic crux which can breed and nourish human minds,” he added.
